775,920. Valves. STAMICARBON N.V. March 7, 1955 [March 8, 1954], No. 6647/55. Class 135. A gas flow control unit comprises a valve 15 19 which opens to place the inlet and outlet 1, 2 in to communication and closes to close off the inlet and open the outlet to atmosphere via port 18, a double-acting diaphragm or piston 21 having one of the spaces 25 communicating with the outlet at 7 and the other having an inlet for gas under pressure at 24, the diaphragm or piston and valve being so related that on opening the valve, outlet pressure at 7 acts on the diaphragm or piston to maintain the valve open against a yielding force, e.g. the spring 29, and whereby the valve may be closed by admission of gas under pressure to the other side of the diaphragm or piston. The valve may be opened by manually depressing the button 27 or by supplying pressure at 11 which displaces the ball valve 30 downwards and passes to the piston chamber 25. Outlet pressure then passes along passage 7, displaces the ball-valve 30 upwards and holds the valve open by acting on top of the piston. As valve 15 opens so valve 19 closes the outlet from the atmosphere 18. To close the valve 15 pressure is admitted from passage 13 to displace a ball valve 31 downwards and pass at 24 to the lower side of the piston. The valve 15 may be locked in its closed position by the pressure at 12 lifting the ball valve 13 and acting on the under face of the piston.
