636,490. Conduits; couplings. ROUSSEL, C. July 7, 1947, No. 17832. Convention date, June 7, 1946. [Classes 36 and 38 (i)] A unit for an electric main consists of at least one conductor 1 embedded in a block A of insulating concrete or mortar, the unit being adapted to be joined end to end with similar units to form an electric conduit. The end of the lead 1 is led into a recess 2 where it is connected with the lead in the next block by a flexible connection 3 in which a fuse may be incorporated. The junction is covered by an insulating cap 4. Adjacent blocks are interlocked by bosses and recesses 6, a resilient member 8 being interposed. A metal sheath 7 may be placed around each block. Before being embedded in the block the conductors may be surrounded by non-magnetic metal fabric or by glass or asbestos wool, or they may be coated with paraffin wax. This allows for expansion and slight movement of the conductor within the block. Branch-off means may be provided and consist of copper strips secured to the conductors through which connection is made to branch lines.
