Abstract

794,337. Cable-ends. LODGE PLUGS, Ltd. May 10, 1956 [June 8, 1955], No. 16533/55. Class 36. The end of a mineral insulated metal sheathed cable is sealed by two ceramic plugs, 13 and 14, one of them abutting the mineral insulation of the cable 12, with a glass seal 15, constituted by an annulus of H-section located between them and forming a moisture-tight seal with the inner surface of the sheath 11 and the outer surface of the core 10. Materials other than glass having suitable thermal properties may be used for the seal and the Specification describes a method of forming the seal and indicates suitable materials for the construction of core, sheath and ceramic plugs for pressure-tight and non-pressure-tight seals.
