Abstract

636,376. Mine-roof supports. KAY, P. Dec. 6, 1947, No. 32251. [Class 20 (ii)] A support for mine-roofs &c. comprises a main upright 1 rigidly secured to a base 2 having a bent up front to facilitate transport, a load-supporting member 10 being pivoted at 15 to the main upright and having a swinging arm 17 adapted to bear on a second upright 3 rigidly secured to the main upright 1 and to the base 2. Arcuate bearing surfaces 5, 9 are provided on the main'upright and member 10 respectively. A wedge 7 mounted in guide 6 is driven transversely of the uprights 1, 3, to displace the arm 17 when it is desired to release the support. The arm 17 may also be pulled clear of the upright 3 to release the support. An eye 8 is provided for the attachment of a chain &c. to transfer the support to a different position.
