Abstract

634,410. Swivels. NATIONAL SUPPLY EXPORT CORPORATION, and OIL WELL ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. July 1, 1947, No. 17348. Convention date, Aug. 12, 1946. [Class 24] [Also in Group XXI] A swivel for use in rotary well boring apparatus comprises a housing 10 provided integrally with a pair of ears 19, 20 to which the bifurcated ends of a supporting bail 22 are pivoted by pins 28, 29. The pivotal movement of the bail is limited by abutments on the ears 19, 20. A shoulder 12 in the housing 10 supports the rotary sleeve 14. A closure member 32 for the housing, supports a gooseneck 36 which communicates with a wash pipe 39 secured to the upper end of the rotary sleeve 14, and prevents disassembly of the pivot pins 28, 29. The closure member is releasably mounted on and spaced by shims from an annular flange 18 of the housing. The swivel may be suspended by a rod fitting into a recess at the top of the bail, and secured by a pivot pin. Specification 545,166, [Group XXI], is referred to.
