Abstract
634,031. Sewing-machines. FAIRWEATHER, W. C. (Singer Manufacturing Co.). March 10, 1948, No. 7333. [Class 112] Overhead sewing-machines. In a machine of the scale-pan type, for operating on flimsy and elastic material such as fine nylon, a device is provided for exerting a pull on the work substantially on the line of stitches to avoid puckering due to clinging of the stitches to the stitch-finger. In the embodiment shown, a resilient finger 26 fixed to the bearing sleeve 14 of the outer feed-cup 12 has its end twisted so as to be inclined transversely and arranged to bear on the outer edge of the rim of the feed-cup 12 so as to press the upper edge of the work on to this rim to be fed by it. The work is guided to the finger by the presser-member 24 described in Specification 547,644. The edge of the feed-cup rim is buffed to a slight radius to avoid damage to the work. Instead of having the usual serrated periphery, the outer feed-cup may have a resilient ring, for example of neoprene, bonded to it to provide the feeding surface.
