633,585. Detachable wheel mountings for cycles &c. FABRIS, G. Oct. 31, 1947, No. 29129. Convention date, Nov. 6, 1946. [Classes 136 (ii) and 136 (iii)] In apparatus for mounting the hubs of wheels to the frame forks of bicycles, motor cycles and the like a member is provided one at each end of the hub 10 comprising a semi-circular shell 1 brazed or welded to the frame tubes at the points normally provided on the fork ends for receiving the hub, a second shell 3 of corresponding semi-circular shape being pivotally mounted on the first and locking means to secure the two half-shells together in order each to completely envelope one end of the wheel hub mechanism. The locking means is constituted by a hollow lever 5. pivotally mounted on a lug 3b on the shell 3 at 4 and containing a tension spring 6 and a piston 18 through which passes a shackle 7 engageable in a hooked lug 9 on the fixed shell 1. The wheel hub 10 is provided at each extremity with a ball race 13, the inner race 12 of each of which is pressed on the hub and the external races 14 being totally enclosed by the two half-shells when in the closed position. If, as shown in Figs. 4 and 5, the standard type hub is used the two half-shells 1<SP>1</SP> and 31 are provided with a groove 15 of conical section which in the closed position engages a correspondingly shaped peripheral portion 16a on a disc 16 provided with a bore 17 for the reception of the extremities of the wheel hub. The bore 17 may be arranged eccentrically to permit variation in the chain tension by angular displacement of the disc.
