Abstract
A pulverulent flux coating is applied in concentric layers to an iron electrode core, one layer containing fluorspar, tending to produce arc extinction, being separated from the core by at least one other layer of different composition not tending to cause arc extinction. In an example, an ingot-iron core has an inner coating comprising 60 per cent chalk, 30 per cent ferromanganese and 10 per cent potassium silicate; and an outer coating comprising 40 per cent fluorspar, 35 per cent chalk, 15 per cent ferro-manganese, and 10 per cent potassium silicate.
