Abstract

248,363. Soudure AutogÞne Fran- þaise. Feb. 27, 1925, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Uniting by fusion.-An arc-welding electrode for producing joints in iron and steel which can be hammered at about 1000‹ to 1100‹ C. without breaking consists of a metal core coated with one or more metallic-reducing agents such as ferro-silicon and ferro--manganese, and covered by an armour consisting of a band or wire of cotton thread, iron or aluminium or a band of thin paper. The core may be first coated with an adhesive such as gum arabic and the ferro silicon &c. applied in paste or powder form. Several layers may be applied after coating each layer with adhesive. The electrode so coated may be dipped in a second refractory coating. Ferro-chromium or ferro-nickel may be mixed with the powder in parts so as to vary the composition of the joint.
