Abstract
633,275. Dry and contact rectifiers. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Feb. 13, 1948, No. 4264. Convention date, Feb. 15, 1947. [Class 37] In a process for manufacturing selenium rectifiers the surface of the selenium is exposed to the vapour of an aldehyde after heat treatment, and before application of the counter electrode. For example, a solution of formol at 30 per cent, heated to 40 C. may be employed, a treatment of about 1 to 10 seconds being satisfactory. It is stated that rectifier elements made according to the process will withstand an A.C. up to 30 volts r.m.s. without overheating. The following aldehydes may be used : formol, acetaldehyde, benzaldehyde, furfurol, cinnamic either polymerized or not.
