633,021. Stuffing-box packing. SPENCER MOULTON & CO., Ltd., G. (Palmer, B. W.). Aug. 18, 1947, No. 22860. [Class 122(v)] In a flanged gland packing ring surrounding a rod and made of resilient rubber the wearing portion of its throat is formed of hard graphited rubber compound to resist abrasive wear. The whole of the throat formed on the inner cylindrical wall or a thickness of 0.02 inch of the wearing surface is formed of the graphited rubber mix. The packing ring is manufactured from a ring cut from an extruded tube of graphited rubber mix stretched on a mandrel and a sheet of resilient rubber mix wrapped on it prior to shaping and vulcanization.
