632,783. Compound sheet materials. MULLER, J. Feb. 20, 1946, No. 5360. Convention date, Feb. 22, 1945. [Class 140] A napkin which disintegrates when submerged in water comprises a layer of hydrophilic cotton wadding on cellulose wadding paper, and a waterproof layer between two layers of absorbent, easily destructible material, the hydrophilic cotton wadding layer being on the outside of one of the layers of the absorbent material. Referring to the drawing layer (a) is of hydrophilic cotton wadding on a cellulose wadding paper, layer (b) is of cellulose wadding paper, layer (d) of the same or similar absorbent easily-destructible material but not necessarily of the same size, layer (e) is the waterproof layer, e.g. impregnated paper, and layer (c) is of absorbent easily destructible material, preferably thicker than layers (b) and (d). The waterproof layer may be smaller than the layers of easily destructible material so that at the edges of the napkin the layers of absorbent material may be superimposed on each other.
