Abstract
632,598. Ice - cutting - machines. KUBAUGH, B. F. June 9, 1947, No. 15172. Convention date, Dec. 28, 1943. [Class 29] [Also in Group XXIII] In a machine for forming tubes of ice in vertical tubes as described in Specification 632,439, the ice tubes are delivered by gravitation to a chamber containing a rotary cutter which is adjustable to cut off different lengths of ice. The cutter comprises a rim 15 secured to a perforated plate 8 formed of two parts, the part 11a embracing approximately 270 degrees of arc and the part 11 embracing approximately 90 degrees of arc and lying at a higher level than the part 11a. A radial slot 13 is formed between the parts 11 and 11a and the part 11 carries a knife 14 having a sharp edge 24 and a blunt edge 25. The knife 14 is fitted with a setting handle 26, 27 and is locked by screws 28. A floating, perforated plate 16 congruent with the part 11a and locked against rotation by a detent 17, 18 is carried on supports 20 in the form of isoseles triangles. The supports 20 are fixed to shafts 21 adjustable from the rim 15 so that the supports may be set on their bases or on their longer sides. To form large pieces of ice the knife edge 24 is set against the slot 13 and the supports 20 are set on their longer sides. To form " crushed ice," the blunt edge 25 is set against the slot 13 and the supports 20 are set on their bases.
