[Class 140] [Also in Groups X and XXIII] In a flat or curved panel comprising inner and outer sheets 5 of rigid material such as plywood separated by spacing members, one or more of the spacing members are composite, each comprising a pair of thick strips, 1, of soft material (e.g. agglomerated cork, compressed cellulose, or glass wool), with a comparatively thin strip of rigid material 2 (e.g. wood, plywood, metal) adhesively secured between the strips 1, and of depth less than that of the strips 1 so that it does not contact either of the sheets 5. These composite strips may be made by cutting strips from a sandwich of sheets of rigid and soft materials and recessing the longitudinal edges 3 of the rigid material (see Figs. 2-2b). The panel may be bordered by strips of rigid thin material 4, adhesively secured at its edges to the sheets 5 and also to adjacent strips 1 of soft material.
