Abstract
631,827. Air inflation plants. TURNER, W. April 15, 1947, Nos. 9953/47 and 10185/48. [Class 116] [Also in Group XXVIII] An air inflation plant comprises a vertical pillar 2 rotatable in a base 1 and carrying a tower or column 3, an upper member carrying pulleys 7, and a lower member carrying pulleys 9. The upper member and the tower, through its bottom 4, are rigidly mounted on the pillar 2, but the lower member is slidable thereon. Air is supplied through a pipe 10 passing through an arcuate slot in the bottom 4 and terminating in a swiveling head 11 from which a flexible air lead 12 passes over the pulleys on the upper member and lower sliding member and outside the tower through a pair of guide pulleys 13. An air pressure gauge 5 is mounted on the tower from which a flexible air lead 14 is led round the pulleys on the upper and lower members and through the guide pulleys 13. Outside the tower the two air leads extend to a common control valve 15, from which a single flexible lead extends to. the object to be inflated, the valve 15 serving to connect that object selectively with the supply or the pressure gauge. In use, the lead is pulled out of the tower, the lower sliding member rising, and the tower is rotated by a sideways pull on the lead so that the pressure gauge is always observable by the operator. After use the leads are retracted within the tower by the lower sliding member dropping to its bottom position, the control valve 15 meeting the guide pulleys 13 to prevent the leads from being wholly drawn in. The single lead from the valve 15 is inserted through an opening 16 in the tower, closed by a cover 17, and a bar 18 is caused, by the closing of the cover, to drop into a slot 19 and so to lock the tower against rotation. In a modification the vertical pillar is fixed and the tower rotates on it; the pillar is hollow and the air is supplied through it to a connection near the top from which a flexible air lead passes over the upper and lower pulleys and otherwise as described.
