Abstract

631,405. Exhaust pipes. WALLACE, W., and CHAPMAN, G. H. June 20, 1947, No. 16323. [Class 7 (ii)] The end 1 of an internal - combustion engine exhaust pipe is covered when the engine is not in use to prevent ingress of moisture or water, by means of a valve 10 held closed under the combined action of a weight 14 and its own weight. The valve is carried by a bracket 5 on a clamp 2. On. the clamp is pivoted a lever 12 carrying the weight 14 and having an arm 15 engaging an arm 11 attached to an extension of the valve. During operation the pressure of the exhaust gases forces the valve open.
