631,281. Vices. GRAND SPECIALTIES CO. July 9, 1947, No. 18134. Convention date, Nov. 30, 1945. [Class 61 (ii)] In a vice, the arrr 12A of the sliding jaw 13 is of inverted V. shape and slides within a similar shaped opening in the fixed jaw 11, the sides of the arm 12A terminating in bearing surfaces 32A which slide on hori. zontal surfaces in the fixed jaw. The clamp. ing screw 14 is rotat- ably mounted but longitudinally fixed in the arm 12A and engages with the threaded arm of a releasable bell-crank-shaped nut 55 pivoted at 56 to projecting lugs on the fixed jaw and extending upwardly through the open base of the arm 12A. The arm 55A of the nut 55 is spring-urged into engagement with the screw and is released by pressing upon it. Bearings 48 on the inner surface of the arm 12A position the screw 14. The jaws of the vice are urged apart by a spring 60, the ends of which are connected to the rear of the arm 12A and to one of the webs 34 on the bearing surfaces in the fixed jaw. Various means for clamping the vice on a bench are described. The annular mounting portion 25, integral with the body of the vice, may be'rotatably supported on an annular flange on a base member 15 and clamped in any desired adjusted position by screws 16 which pass through a bar 66 and hold it against the lower surface of a flange on the base member. An additional pair of jaws for holding pipes may be mounted beneath the normal jaws.
