Abstract
Filaments, films and the like are made from compositions comprising both a saponifiable cellulose ester and a poly-4-amino-1.2.4-triazole acylated with a mono-functional acylating agent. The materials treated may be saponified to yield a product which has an affinity for direct cotton colours as well as for acid wool colours. The hydrolysing agent may be caustic soda or potash, trisodium phosphate or a strong organic base. An example is given of the production of a spinning solution comprising cellulose acetate and poly-4-amino-octamethylene - 1.2.4 - triazole which has been acylated with formic acid. Separate solutions of these ingredients in formic acid are mixed and then poured into water. The precipitate is dissolved in acetone and this solution is dry spun. After treatment with aqueous caustic soda the yarn showed a good affinity for acid wool colours; dispersed insoluble dyes and soluble colours which are normally used for cellulose acetate; and for cotton colours. The Provisional Specification also describes the use of compositions comprising other cellulose derivatives or other polymers which have little or no affinity for acid wool colours, and acylated polytriazoles, preferably acylated poly-4-aminotriazoles. The polytriazoles and polyaminotriazoles may first be treated with reagents such as acrylic ester to render them soluble in acetone. Specifications 612,609, 613,020 and 613,497 are referred to.
