630,502. Soot-blowers. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. Dec. 19, 1946, No. 37348. Convention date, Dec. 22, 1945 [Class 99(ii)] In a soot blower of the retractable type in which the blower tube 30 is projected by a chain wheel 60, gears 54, 46, and a nut 43 engaging a screw 38 on the tube, the latter is prevented from rotating during projection by a locking device comprising a bar 67 engaging a slot in a disc 33 on the tube and having a forked end 72 engaging a fixed lug 73. The bar is slidable on the spindle 55 and rotatable thereon under the control of a spring 69 and is released by engagement of disc 33 and lug 74 to allow the blower tube to rotate in the operative position. The cleaning fluid supply valve 7 is actuated by a cam surface (not shown) on the disc 33 and a lever 75.
