630,434. Tubular heat-exchangers for heating viscous liquids. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. July 30,1946, No. 22638. Convention date, Feb. 2, 1940. [Class 64(iii)] A heater for viscous liquid is suspended in a reservoir and consists of a main heating element A located near the bottom of the reservoir and in the form of an elongated chamber having external ribs B, and an upright tube C extending from it to supply steam to and withdraw condensate from the chamber and forming auxiliary heating means. The bottom of the pipe C is in communication through a tube M with a space at the bottom of the hollow element A below a perforated deflector. Steam for heating is supplied from the top of the reservoir through a pipe G running axially through the pipe C and forces condensate up the tube M into pipe C to the top of the reservoir where the condensate outflow and the steam inflow is controlled by a cock (not shown) in the return line between C and the boiler supplying the steam. A number of such heaters may be suspended from the roof of the reservoir by means of plates covering holes therein. The pipes C and G are in detachable sections to facilitate inspection and replacement.
