Abstract
630,280. Carding-engines. VARGA, A. March 3, 1947, Nos. 5961 and 32807. [Class 120 (i)] Carding machinery comprising a train of licker-in rollers and a train of divider rollers has a driving arrangement which permits variation of speed of one train independently of the other train while the machinery is in operation. The driving arrangement may be applied to the usual lickerin system of worsted carding engines or to modified systems. In one modification, using four lickers-in, seven dividers may be employed and an additional licker-in may feed the main licker-in train through an angle stripper. In another modification, two successive trains of lickers-in 3, 3a, 3b, 3e, 3f, 3g and co-operating dividers 4, 4h, 4i, 4j, 4k, 4l, are employed, the trains being connected by a doffer 3m and stripper 27. A doffer 3h is stripped by a fly-comb 24 and the web may either be made into a sliver and coiled into a can or passed to another carding unit. Fancies 21, 21a operate in association with lickers-in 3b, 3g and are driven through variable speed gears 22, 23. Lickers-in 3, 3a, 3b are driven from a motor 9 through variable speed gear 8 and belt 20 and lickers-in 3e, 3f, 3g through belt 20a. The dividers, stripper 27 and doffer 3m are interconnected by a chain 19 and are driven from the motor 9, through variable speed gear 7 and belt 7c. According to the Provisional Specifications, the speeds of the licker-in rollers may be varied individually. In the second Provisional Specification it is stated that either the licker-in rollers or the dividers may have variable speed drives and, instead of variable speed gears, a variable speed motor may be employed.
