Abstract
A dry-cleaning solvent has water incorporated therewith by mixing an emulsion of paraffin hydrocarbon and water containing a saturated or unsaturated fatty acid or glyceride thereof and an alkylolamine with the dry-cleaning solvent. The alkylolamine together with the fatty acid or glyceride thereof serves as an emulsifying agent. The dry-cleaning solvents specified comprise petroleum spirits such as white spirit, benzene, and halogenated olefines such as trichlorethylene. The paraffin hydrocarbons may range from light petroleum fractions to petroleum jelly, and white spirit and light spindle oil are exemplified. The saturated or unsaturated fatty acids include stearic, palmitic, lauric, behenic, oleic and recinoleic acids. The alkylolamines specified comprise mono-, di- and tri-ethanolamine. The emulsion may also contain a small proportion of methyl cyclohexanol or pine oil or both; a small proportion of ammonia may also be included.
