Abstract

An aqueous emulsion comprises an ester wax (e.g. ceresine or beeswax) and a mixture of pure paraffins (e.g. isoparaffins) having a boiling range of 160-200 DEG C. and free of aromatics and is suitable as a cosmetics base (see Group VI). A drying oil, e.g. linseed oil and/or a fatty oil, e.g. castor oil and an emulsifier, e.g. a mixture of C14-C18 fatty alcohols and/or the corresponding sulphonates may also be present. Proportions are specified.ALSO:Cosmetics, particularly mascara and eyebrow paint, comprise as base an aqueous emulsion containing an ester wax and a mixture of pure paraffins (e.g. isoparaffins) having a boiling range of 160-200 DEG C. and free of aromatics. The wax and paraffin may be emulsified together with an emulsifying agent, pigments and perfumes and an odour carrier such as terpineol. Suitable emulifiers are a mixture of C14-C18 fatty alcohols and/or the corresponding sulphonates, and a drying oil and/or fatty oil may also be present. A suitable emulsion may comprise by weight 20-30% wax (e.g. beeswax or ceresine), 10-60% paraffin mixture, 5-10% emulsifier, 0-5% drying oil (e.g. linseed oil) 0-10% fatty oil (e.g. castor oil) and 10-40% water.
