Abstract
208,382. Pratt, W. B. Dec. 19, 1923. Emulsions, making. - For treating fabrics &c. aqueous emulsions of sulphur-terpene compounds of the type described in Specification 169,513, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], are prepared by adding water containing a saponifying agent to a mixture of the sulphur-terpene compound and a saponifiable agent; the sulphur-terpene compound may first be dissolved in a solvent such as benzene which is subsequently recovered by distillation. In an example, a mixture of 5 parts of oleic acid with 95 parts of a sulphurterpene compound softened by heat is treated with 100 parts of water to which have been added 5 parts of ammonia and 1 part of oleic acid. Instead of oleic acid, an oil or a mixture of glycerides of the fatty acids may be used. The emulsifying agent may be subsequently removed. The products may be mixed with emulsions of other substances, and are stated to possess the same range of application as the unemulsified compounds.
