Abstract
629,680. Charging retorts. LOW TEMPERATURE CARBONISATION, Ltd., POSTLETHWAITE, J. P., and HARLEY, J. W. Feb. 17, 1947, No. 4600. [Class 51 (ii)] [Also in Group XXX] A charging skip for feeding two hoppers at a time is formed as a unit with adjacently disposed twin hoppers 1 separated by a flame duct 4. As shown, the wheeled charging skip is moved on overhead rails 23 underneath bunkers 24. As the skip approaches the bunkers the twin cam surfaces 26 on the skip co-operate with rollers 27 which swing about a pivot 29 together with the bunker discharge door 30 so that the latter opens and coal is discharged into the skip till the latter is full. The hoppers are varied in capacity by plates 10 which pivot on the sides of the hoppers and engage in the appropriate slot in curved rack 12. As the skip moves away from the bunkers 24 and the cam surfaces 26 automatically swing rollers 27 to close the doors 30 of the bunkers and, when the skip is over the retorts, handle 15 is operated to release the coal which falls through twin semi-circular valves 14 and is directed by plates 31 into the retort below.
