Abstract
262,625. Matthews, F. G., and Aldridge, J. G. W. Jan. 29, 1926. Charging and discharging. - In a discharging charger for horizontal gas retorts, of the pivoted push-plate type, a flared hood 14 is attached to the retort end of the movable apron-trough 4 bridging the space between the charger and the retort in order to prevent fuel being swept off the charger by the upper edge of the retort mouthpiece 2. As shown in Fig. 1, the trough 4 is slidably mounted by means of T-section rails 10 sliding on rollers 6 carried by the girders 9 of the charger, and the hood 14, shaped as shown, is secured by bolts or rivets passing through the abutting horizontal webs of the angle-irons 11, 16. Where, with a fixed hood 14, there is insufficient space between the charger and the retorts to permit operation of the doors 23, the hood is pivoted at 22, Fig. 5, to the forward end of the trough 4 and is provided with a projecting tongue 21 adapted, when the trough 4 is withdrawn, to engage a staple 24 on the wall of the fuel hopper 3 and so enable the trough 4 to be retracted to a greater extent.
