[Class 83 (i)] [Also in Group XXX] A hoist having a die-cast metal frame is reinforced by members of stronger material moulded in or otherwise secured to the casting to form either a support for the suspension hook or a chain guide. As shown in Fig. 2, a strap 53 formed of steel is moulded in the die-cast frame to reinforce the yoke portion 56 to which the suspension hook 60 is attached. The downwardlyextending legs 54 of the strap are formed with holes to key the strap to the casting. A chain guide 45, Fig. 3, of suitable ferrous metal is also moulded in the frame, being anchored by its flared walls 50 and by tabs (not shown) projecting into the body of the casting. The frame comprises a casting 10 having end walls 12, 13, the end wall 12 being extended at 23 to form a recess 24 for one of the flanges of the hand wheel 21. An outer guide 30 integral with a cover 34 is secured to the inner guide 25 by bolts 31 and spacers 32. The hand wheel 21 is mounted on a shaft 15 mounted in bearings 16, 20 and is connected to the shaft by a Weston type brake 22. The load-wheel shaft 35 is mounted in bearings 36, 40 and carries a gear 41 meshing with a pinion 14 on the shaft 15. The load-wheel 43 is integral with the shaft 35. A cover member 42 is secured by screws to the wall 13. In an alternative construction the shafts 15, 35 are separated by an internal wall in the casting, and the chain guide is in two parts screwed together in position by bolts entering inserts in the casting; the cover 34 is omitted. The hoist may be motor-driven.
