Abstract

696,448. Bearings. JARUND, H. S. V. March 5, 1951 [March 9, 1950], No. 5310/51. Class 12 (i). A ball bearing of the type including an endless raceway 4 with one linear section 4a having a portion thereof elevated above the remaining portion of the raceway whereby balls 5 in the section 4a support load applied to the bearing, comprises a unitary member including a straight bar 12 and integral flanges 14, 15 forming the inner walls and bottom of the raceway and a housing 1 forming the outer walls of the raceway. The bar 12 may be loosely inserted in cavity 16 in the housing 1, or it may be secured to the bottom thereof by screws 18. The bar 12 has a rib 17 extending around its top edge and so formed that it will overlie a portion of the balls 5. The rib 17 is enlarged at 171 in order to guide the balls particularly effectively as they enter and leave the load section 4a. In a modification, the flange 15 is omitted, and the bottom of the no-load section 4b is formed by a flanged portion of the housing 1.
