Abstract

628,728. Liquid-break switches. REYROLLE & CO., Ltd., A., and CHRISTIE, J. Oct. 10, 1947, No. 27268. [Class 38(v)] In a liquid-blast circuit-breaker, wherein the fixed main contact D is located in an arc-control device, which may be as described in Specification 435,250 or 452,146, and the movable contact rod F co-operates with an auxiliary electrode G<SP>1</SP> connected through a limiting resistance H to the fixed contact D, the container A has an internal longitudinal wall C dividing it into two chambers A<SP>1</SP>, C<SP>1</SP>, respectively containing the contacts and resistance. In the arrangement shown, the chambers A<SP>1</SP>, C<SP>1</SP> are respectively connected to reservoir compartments B<SP>5</SP>, B<SP>6</SP>, which are wholly separated from one another. The lower end of the resistance is connected to a contact H<SP>1</SP> which is slidably engaged by a contact G<SP>3</SP> connected to the electrode G<SP>1</SP>, so that the contact assembly may be withdrawn without affecting the resistance. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown), the chambers A<SP>1</SP>, C<SP>1</SP> are in open communication above the liquid level.
