Abstract

660,682. Liquid resistances. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and THORNHILL, A. Jan. 9, 1950 [Jan. 7, 1949], No. 550/49. Class 37. A liquid resistance comprises a fixed electrode 3, Fig. 1, and a movable electrode 4 working in a container 1 through which an electrolyte is continuously circulated, the space between the bottom of the container and electrode 4 increasing as the distance apart of the electrodes increases over at least a part of the range of movement, so that more liquid flows under the movable electrode as it moves away from the fixed electrode, and the level of the liquid falls. Preferably, the movable electrode is apertured at 6 and has cut-away shoulders at 8, Fig. 2, so that when the electrodes are close together, the liquid flows through the aperture and gapped shoulders. The container 1 may have sloping walls 7 and terminates in a spout 10 from which liquid flows for re-circulation. Specification 614,170 is referred to.
