687,237. Electrodes for electrolytic cells. PYROR, Ltd. March 28, 1951 [May 8, 1950] No. 7234/51. Class 41. An electrode for an electrolytic cell is hollow and is provided on both sides with shallow ribs 9 over which is drawn a diaphragm 5, openings 11, 12 being provided respectively at the top and bottom of the electrode, so that gas produced by electrolysis passes up between the outer surface of the electrode and the surrounding diaphragm and through the openings 11 into a hood 4, thereby inducing circulation of the electrolyte upwardly outside and downwardly inside the electrode. The openings 12 are formed by notches in the bottom edge of the electrode.
