Abstract
622,691. Electrolytic treatment of sewage. SCOTT, (ELECTRICAL), Ltd., G. R., and SCOTT, G. P. Dec. 12, 1946, No. 36695. [Class 41] Apparatus for treating fµcal matter in a closet comprises an electrode assembly having insulating bridges mounted on a pair of spaced electrodes, and means for connecting the electrodes to a source of low voltage direct current potential while they are immersed in the closet. In the arrangement shown, a pan 12 housed in a dry closet contains rectangular electrode plates 1, 2 of pure electrolytic copper which are spaced apart by bridges 3 of insulating material. The electrodes are connected in circuit with a six-volt accumulator 4 through a cut-out switch 5 and a time switch 6. The switch 6 is operated automatically when the lid of the closet is raised. A copper plate 7 is arranged between, but insulated from, the electrodes 1, 2. The plates 1, 2 may be perforated. In a modification, the pan itself constitutes one electrode. The electrodes instead of being of copper may be of silver or carbon, and, in the latter case, the electrolyte may contain a salt, for example sodium chloride, which will liberate chlorine during electrolysis.
