Abstract
628,922. Variable condensers. AIRMEC, Ltd., JONES, V. A., and PIKE, E. G. July 30, 1947, No. 20697. [Class 37] A variable condenser comprises a tubular outer electrode 10 and a tube or rod 20 serving as an inner electrode slidable axially therein, the clearance between the two being at least partly filled by a solid dielectric 39 (e.g. polythene, polystyrene, or a ceramic). The dielectric 39 is rigidly secured to one or other of the two electrodes. Several such condensers are supported in an inverted metal channel-shaped member 16, the fourth side being composed of an insulating strip 12, e.g. of paxolin, to which are secured the outer tubes 10. The inner rods screw into " speed-nuts 23, tongues 28, 29, of which grip the top limb 18 of the member 16 and a sheet 31 to which the whole assembly is fixed. Alternatively, the member 16 may be the usual way up, the paxolin 12 then bridging its top, the assembly otherwise being exactly as shown in Fig. 1.
