Abstract

628,591. Knitting-machines. WHYTE & SMITH, Ltd., and WOOLLEY, G. H. June 1, 1945, No. 1697/48. Divided out of 628,531. [Class 74 (ii)] A straight-bar machine for producing intarsia or argyll patterns and as described in Specification 628,531, comprises thread-carriers 4a . . . 4d mounted on rods 3a ... 3d and carried by cylindrical blocks 5 which are rotatably mounted in slide-blocks 6 mounted in guides 7. The blocks 5 and 6 are operated by links from cams 13, 17 on the main cam-shaft 10. At the end of each draw the blocks 5 are partly rotated to swing the carriers from the beard side to the rear side of the needles and the blocks 6 are lowered to lay the thread in the throats of the sinkers. The carrier rods are then shogged. The blocks 5 are then counterrotated to swing the carriers to the front of the needles and the blocks 6 are raised. According to the Provisional Specification at the end of each draw the blocks 6 are raised and the blocks 5 rotated to move the thread-carriers to the rear side of the needles. The carriers are then shogged, the blocks 5 are counter-rotated and the blocks 6 are lowered.
