Abstract

628,562. Thermionic valves. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. July 13, 1946, No. 21014. Convention date, Oct. 3, 1945. [Class 39 (i)] In an electron discharge device of the type in which the cathode, grid and anode are mounted upon annular rings spaced apart by glass collars forming part of the envelope, the grid structure comprises three or more groups of grid wires fixed to an annular ring. The wires of each group are nested one within the other and bent in a plane at an angle of 360 degrees/n, where n is the number of groups, and are fixed to the ring at their ends only, the bent portions of the wires being left unsupported, so that deformation of the grid wires out of their plane due to thermal effect is eliminated. As shown, four groups 16-19, of nested wires are. mounted on the ring 10. The emitting coating on the cathode is omitted from that portion opposite the central space 20. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a grid made of radial inwardly-extending wires. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
