Abstract

628,489. Erasers. PARASOR AKT.-GES. Nov. 20, 1946, No. 34451. Convention date, Nov. 20, 1945. [Class 146 (iii)] An erasing device particularly for effecting erasures through the central type guide on a typewriter has means provided for determining the pressure of a rotatable eraser member on the platen and has the front part of the holder cranked, a flexible shaft being provided in the cranked part to transmit movement from the driving device to the rotatable eraser member. The driving device comprises a sleeve 1 having a concentric inner sleeve 2 fixed within it, the annular space 3 between them housing a spring 4 and the end of a sleeve 5, the sleeves 1 and 5 telescoping against the action of the spring. A pin 22 on the sleeve 1 slides in a longitudinal groove 21 on the sleeve 5 and a cranked member 11 and can engage a circumferential groove to maintain the position shown. A screw-threaded spindle 7 engages a fixed nut 6 in the sleeve 2 and has a nut 23 to prevent disengagement. The cranked member 11 connects the sleeve 5 to the tapered head 12 of the device and houses the flexible shaft 28 which is connected to an extension 9 of the spindle 7 at one end and at the other to one part 14 of the eraser holder by an extension 91. The eraser 16 is held in the other part 15 of the holder which has arms engaging slots in the part 14, the two parts being pressed apart by a spring 20, which spring determines the pressure of the eraser on the platen, the eraser and eraser holder being rotated through the spindle 7 and flexible shaft 28 on longitudinal movement between the sleeves 1 and 5. A guiding part 24 with a knife-edged front end is displaceably held by a slide 26 running in a dovetail cross-section groove in the head 12 and clamped by a screw 27. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the subject-matter of Specification 593,651 which is referred to. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
