Abstract

627,938. Windows. CHESTON, A. S., EDMONDS, E. C., CHESTON, B., and COWARD, C. F. Aug. 22, 1947, No. 23259. [Class 20(iii)] To allow a damaged window panel to be removed from a sliding vehicle window, particularly of the half-drop type, without disturbing the winding mechanism, the panel is detachably secured to slidable side supports by separate removable or displaceable clamping plates bearing against one face of the panel. In one construction, a half drop window has a slidable top panel 1 and a fixed lower panel 2. To raise or lower the top panel, a handle 6 is rotated and rotates a cross shaft carrying pinions. which engage racks attached to vertically disposed slides 8, which engage frame guides 9. The panel 1 is detachably secured to the slides 8 by clamping plates 17 which are screwed to blocks 14 carried by the slides. One or both of the clamping plates 17 is provided with slotted holes 20, so that by slackening the screws 16 and sliding the plate outwards the panel 1 may be removed, without disturbing the winding mechanism or the fixed panel 2.
