[Class 37] [Also in Group XL (c)] A time base generator for a cathode-ray oscilloscope is synchronized at a frequency which is a submultiple of the repetition fre. quency of the signal to be examined by deriving pulses of an appropriate frequency from the signal. The Figure shows a time-base circuit for an oscillograph including a Puckle type hard valve time-base, comprising valves 1, 2 and 3. The signal to be examined is converted to a pulse waveform for synchronizing by a device 10 whose output is applied to the suppressor grid of phase reversing valve 3 via a cathode follower 9. The device 10 may be of the type described in Specification 572,884, [Group XL]. In order to prevent a falling off in the saw-tooth amplitude when the signal and hence the saw-tooth frequency increases, a bias proportional to the output potential is fed to linearizing pentode 1 in such a sense as to increase the current through it when the output frequency increases. The bias is derived by feeding the saw-tooth output to a rectifier 23 via a cathode follower 13. A voltage delay is provided in the rectifier circuit by biassing the cathode positively.
