627,241. Protective arrangements. CHARLES, G. R. S., SANDERSON, W. T., and EASY, M. H. Nov. 25, 1947, No. 35085/46. [Classes 35 and 38 (iv)] A device for removing static electric charges from a body comprises a short high-resistance conductor 10 connected to the body by a low resistance connection such as an aluminium tabular lug 12, the conductor being so arranged that its specific resistance at the end connected to the body is greater than its specific resistance at the other end. The conductor 10 may comprise non-metallic material such as stranded cotton or nylon yarn or extruded flexible rod of rubber or synthetic resin, impregnated with particles of silver. An insulating sheath 11 covers the conductor up to within a short distance of its free end. The electrical connection between the conductor 10 and the attachment lug 12 pressed thereon and between the lug and the body may be improved by using a conductive paste such as graphite paste. When the free end frays, a short length is cut off and the insulating sheath 11 cut back. The resistance may be adjusted by inserting a conducting wire or applying a conductive cement at the lug end of the yarn.
