Abstract

A shaped article for insertion into the channel through which molten metal flows into a mould is formed from a refractory bonding-material and a material which acts to conserve or to produce heat in order to prevent premature solidification of the metal. The refractory material is prepared from sodium silicate and sodium silicofluoride or sodium borofluoride, and a heat-insulating substance such as asbestos, mica, or aluminium oxide, or a heat-producing material such as a mixture of iron oxide and aluminium is added as a filler.
