[Class 43] [Also in Group XXII] In a riveting machine having an anvil comprising a member 3 from which a pin 17 normally projects under the influence of a spring 18, the anvil is mounted in a block 4 adapted to be laterally displaced relatively to the anvil supporting arm of the machine so that the anvil may be moved out of alignment with the tool 1 to facilitate the locating and registering of the parts to be riveted. The anvil 3 is mounted vertically in a block 4 adapted to slide in a holder 7 which for this purpose is provided with upstanding flanges 7a and guide plates 5 with flanges engaging in longitudinal recesses 12 in opposite sides of the block 4. The lower face of the block has two depressions 15, 16 engaged by a spring-pressed ball 14a in the holder 7 to hold the block either with the anvil beneath the riveting tool or displaced laterally from such position. The lower end of the holder 7 is screw-threaded and carries nuts 10, 11, by which it is adjustably secured within the anvil supporting arm 9 of the machine. Upstanding from the centre of the anvil is a pilot pin 17 which may be pressed down against its spring 18 by the riveting tool. In a modification the block 4 may contain a number of spaced anvil components movable successively into alignment with the tool 1.
