[Also in Group XXIII] Work having a shape comprising a straight portion blending with two radiused portions is shaped by a tool which is guided along a continuous path corresponding to the shape by adiustable guide means. The latter include two plates 16, 17 and a sliding member 18 each of which has an arcuate recess to form a slideway for an arcuate tongue 25 on the tool holder 44. In operation, the plates 16, 17 are adjusted by screws 36 until they are separated by a distance corresponding to the straight portion of the work. Pegs 41 secured to the plates enable this distance to be accurately determined by a slip gauge, a micrometer or a gauge plate having holes to receive the pins when they occupy the required positions. The tool holder, starting from a position determined: by a stop 49. in the recess of the plate 16, is swung downwardly in an arcuate path by a handle 47 until the tongue 25 fully occupies the recess in the slide 18 and is prevented by engagement with the lower edge of the plate 17 from further movement in that recess. The slide 18 is now compelled to move by the pressure applied to the handle 47 until the recesses in the slide 18 and plate 17 are in alignment and the tongue 25 can complete its movement to a stop 50. The tool is adjustably clamped by a screw 46 in the holder 44 to give the desired radius at each end of the straight portion of the path produced by movement of the slide 18. The housing of the device is fitted with strips, such as 31, to engage recesses in the plates 16, 17 and the slide 18 to guide the movements of these members and is enclosed by dust shields. Apertured lugs 19 are provided at each end of the housing for engagement by the headstock and tailstock of a machine.
