[Class 136 (ii)] A chain driving mechanism for cycles and like vehicles comprises a pedal crank shaft A coupled concentrically to a chain wheel C through a free wheel mechanism B and a chain driving the rear wheel via a variable gear of the type in which the chain is moved laterally to engage driven sprockets of various diameters, the sprockets being rigidly attached to the rear wheel.
