Abstract

Carbon black pellets made from furnace blacks by the admixture of a limited amount of water followed by mechanical agitation, are strengthened by heating in a static atmosphere which may be natural, oxidizing or reducing, to a temperature between 1000 DEG and 2000 DEG F., gently stirring or tumbling and avoiding coking, and permitting them to cool in the same static atmosphere. The temperature is preferably between 1200 DEG and 1600 DEG F., e.g. 1400 DEG F.
