Abstract

Glass fibres are dyed with metallized or non-metallized acid wool or direct dyestuffs by pretreating them with a water-soluble reaction product of formaldehyde and an acyclic compound of the urea group which contains at least once the atomic grouping <FORM:0624453/IV (c)/1> and consists of elements having an atomic weight of at most 16 and in which the atomic ratio of oxygen, when present, to carbon is smaller than 1 : 1, and wherein the fibres are additionally treated simultaneously with or after dyeing with a hardenable aminoplastic precondensate. In an example, glass fabric is treated with a solution of the water-soluble reaction product of formaldehyde with dicyandiamidine, dried and treated on the foulard with a solution containing dimethylolurea, ammonia, ammonium chloride and a dyestuff, many of which are specified.
