Abstract

572,790. Bags. TOOTAL BROADHURST LEE CO., Ltd., and CORTEEN, H. Nov. 24, 1941, No. 15144. [Class 94 (ii)] [Also in Group VIII] Fabric bags for explosive charges are made from a material containing a polymerized ester capable of increasing water-resistance, a synthetic resin derived from urea or a urea-like substance and a smoulder-proofing reagent. Vegetable fibre such as mercerized cotton, rayon or a mixture of animal and cellulosic fibre such as silk and cotton may be used. The synthetic resin may be made from urea or ammonium cyanate, substituted urea or the corresponding thio-bodies or cyanamide or melamine or other straight chain or ring bodies containing an N.C.N. grouping the nitrogen atoms of which carry at least one hydrogen atom. The smoulder-proofing reagent may be ammonium phosphate &c.-or may be an acid with which the fabric is treated and the fabric being afterwards washed. An aqueous mixture containing urea-formaldehyde semi-condensation product and a polymerized ester such as polymerized butyl ether or ethyl ether of ethylene glycol methacrylate or other polyacrylic acid esters may be used, and the resin condensation completed by heat, a catalyst such as that specified in Specification 449,243, [Group IV], being used which combines the functions of catalyst and smoulder-proofing reagent. Phosphate may be afterwards added. Specification 570,135, [Group VIII], also is referred to.
