Abstract

The invention comprises N,N1-dimethylolhexahydrobenzimidazol-2-one (cis or trans) and ethers thereof with C1- 3 aliphatic alcohols. The methylol compounds may be obtained by reacting hexahydrobenzimidazol-2-one with formaldehyde. The ethers may be obtained by reacting the methylol compounds with the alcohol or by reacting hexahydrobenzimidazol-2-one with both formaldehyde and the alcohol. The products are used to impart crease-resistance to cellulosic textile materials (see Division D1). Trans-hexahydrobenzimidazol - 2 - one is prepared from trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane and urea. The cis-form may be prepared similarly. Specifications 835,596, 846,505 and 888,905 are referred to.ALSO:N,N1-dimethylolhexahydrobenzimidazol-2-ore (cis or trans) and ethers thereof with C1-3 aliphatic alcohols are used to impart crease and/or shrink resistance or other permanent mechanical effects to cellulosic textile materials. The textile material may be impregnated with an aqueous solution of the above compounds in the presence of an acid or latent-acid catalyst, dried, e.g. at 90-110 DEG C., and then baked at 130-200 DEG C. It may then be washed. Suitable textile materials include fibres, yarns or fabrics such as cotton, viscose and linen. From 3 to 30% of the compound may be applied to the textile material. Other nitrogen resin precondensate, may be present including methylol and alkoxylmethyl derivatives of ureas, thioureas, imidazolidones, dicyandiamide, carbomates, allophanates, amides, ureins, urons, triazones and aminotriazines. Other compounds which may be present include methylolstearamides, polyvinyl alcohol, cellulose ethers, starches, starch ethers, polyvinyl acetate, polyethylene and reactive dyes. Specifications 835,596, 846,505 and 888,906 are referred to.
