Abstract

In the dyeing of textile yarns with vat or sulphur dyestuffs on skein yarn or spray dyeing machines, improved results are obtained by employing as the reducing agent (a) an alkali-metal or ammonium salt of a linear or branched hydroxyalkyl sulphinic acid with 2-4 carbon atoms in which the hydroxyl group and the sulphinic acid group are attached to the same carbon atom or (b) a derivative of ammonia which contains at least once, directly attached to the nitrogen atom, the radical of an alkali-metal or ammonium salt of a linear or branched alkylsulphinic acid with 2-4 carbon atoms in which the nitrogen atom and the sulphur atom are attached to the same carbon atom, or a mixture of the two salts. Specified derivatives of ammonia are the reaction products of the alkali-metal or ammonium salts of a hydroxyalkyl sulphinic acid with 2-4 carbon atoms with methylamine, dimethylamine, isopropylamine, nbutylamine, ethylene diamine, hydrazine or urea. Examples describe the dyeing of yarns of cotton, mercerised cotton and regenerated cellulose staple fibres.
