Abstract

Fabrics wholly or partly of cellulose are dyed in a single operation without the use of reducing agents with a padding liquor comprising a water-soluble thiosulphonic acid of a sulphur dye and/or its salts, a bi- or polyfunctional substance yielding a stable reaction product with the sulphur dye and an acid or alkaline catalyst and, after optional dyeing, heating at, e.g. 150-220 DEG C., in dry or moist heat and finishing in the usual way. The specified bi- or polyfunctional compounds are di- or polyepoxides, or -chlorhydrins, tris-acryloyl-hexahydro-s-triazine, bis-b -hydroxyethane sulphone, dito hexa-methylol melamine and the dimethylol derivatives of urea, ethylene urea and s-triazone or alkyl ethers thereof, the disodium salt of tris-(b -sulphatohydroxyethyl)-sulphonium betaine, bis-or poly-chloroacetyl compounds of di- or polyamines, tris-aziridinyl-phosphinoxide and di- or polyisocyanates and their bisulphites. Examples of dyeing cotton, cotton/polyester and cotton/polyacrylonitrile fabrics are given.
