Abstract

The invention comprises dyes of formula <FORM:0952062/C3/1> where X and Y are water-solubilizing radicles which are SO3H and COOH or their alkali metal or ammonium salts, m is 0-3, n 0-2 and m+n is 1-4, R1 is a benzene, naphthalene or dehydrothio-p-toluidine residue and the benzene and naphthalene residues may be substituted by Cl, Me, Et or OMe groups, R2 is a 1, 4-benzene or naphthalene residue which may be substituted as R1, R3 is a 1,4-benzene residue which may be substituted as R1, Z is Me Et and G is a fibre-reactive link which is a halogenotriazinyl, a halogenopyrimidinyl or an aryloxycarboxyl residue, the latter having 6 to 12 C atoms in the aryl nucleus. The dyes may be made by treating corresponding dyes in which G is H with appropriate compounds to introduce G. Indicated residues for G are dichlorotriazine, a monosubstituted - mono-chlorotriazine where the substituent is NH2, alkylamino, hydroxyalkylamino, arylamino or sulphonated arylamino, phenyloxycarbonyl or chlorpyrimidine residues. The dyes colour textiles having OH, NH, NH2 or ONa radicles, e.g. cellulosic fibres, wool, silk nylon, leather, paper and plastic films. Representative of specified compounds from which R1 is derived are aniline, metanilic acid, p-aminobenzoic acid, 4 - chlor - 2 - aminotoluene and 1 - amino - 3,6, 8-naphthalene-trisulphonic acid; from which R2 is derived are o-phenetidine, 2-amino-4-methoxy - benzoic acid, 2 - ethoxy - 1 - naphthylamine and 1 - naphthylamine - 7 - sulphonic acid and from which R3 is derived are N-ethyl or methyl - m - chloraniline, N - methyl - m - anisidine, 5 - chloro - 2 - methyl - N - methylaniline and 5 - methyl - 2 - methoxy - N - methylaniline. Representative of specified compounds from which G, when triazinyl, may be derived are the reaction products of cyanuric chloride (on the first Cl atom) with 2-amino-p-benzene-disulphonic acid, ammonia, butylamine, monoethanolamine, 3 - methoxypropylamine, p-chloraniline, anthranilic acid, 7-naphthylamine-1,3-disulphonic acid, methylisopropylamine, N-methylaniline, methanol and isopropyl mercaptan. Examples are provided of the preparation of the dyes and their use in dyeing cotton in orange, scarlet and brown shades. Specifications 822,047 and 918,416 are referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 797,946, 822,047, 847,635 and 865,681.
